Donor Story
Laura Huong, 48, is a single mother caring for her own, frail mother, age 78, who resides with her. After the busy morning routine, Laura has a moment to read the Shepherd’s Center (SC) annual appeal letter. She knows the money donated to SC is highly leveraged, because the majority of its services are provided by volunteers.
Laura reminisces about the past year, recalling how the Shepherd’s Center provided friendly visitors to spend time with her mother while Laura was at work and her children were at school. She also recalls the volunteer drivers that came each Thursday morning to take her mother to the Adventures in Learning program. Not only has the Shepherd’s Center given Laura a helping hand with her eldercare responsibilities; they have also given her mother a renewed purpose and vitality during this stage in her life.
Laura decides to give a generous donation to the Shepherd’s Center this year and take advantage of her employer’s corporate match program as well, knowing that because of her donation, the high quality services provided by SC can continue to be offered to others as well.
