Volunteer Spotlight
At SCNOVA, we’re proud of the work our volunteers do. We wanted to highlight the work they do and also give them a chance to share what it means to them to volunteer for those in need.

On the parable of the Good Samaritan: “I imagine that the first question the priest and Levite asked was, If I stop to help this man, what will happen to me? But by the very nature of his concern, the good Samaritan reversed the question, If I do not stop to help this man, what will happen to him?”
― Martin Luther King Jr.
“Dr. King’s sermon on the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37) made me think about the cost to someone if I don’t help them. This is the reason why I volunteer at the Shepherd’s Center of Northern Virginia. I also remember those nameless people who helped my own elderly mother in New York City when she was in need. I am truly grateful for their unselfish assistance. I just wanted to do the same for someone else.
I enjoy giving rides or assisting with simple household tasks because I truly enjoy getting to know the people I serve and also knowing that I can be of some assistance to them.”
